1. Digital Switchover

I was interested to read in today’s Guardian (well on the website, obviously, I’m not paying for one when I can read it for free online and I get to read a free copy of The Metro everyday anyway) that there will be an estimated £250m left over from the digital TV switchover.

It’s quite amusing to think that anyone who watches TV has not heard of the digital TV switchover. It’s everywhere. That annoying little yellow robot is constantly appearing and bothering us to go digital.

I’m all for money from the switchover fund going towards helping elderly or disabled people switch to digital but I can’t help but wonder why there is a concern for “low awareness of switchover among ethnic minorities and non-English speaking groups.”

Although, I’d never move to country and not make any attempt to learn the language, I certainly don’t agree with the “If they can’t speak English, they can fuck off back to where they came from” Daily Mail brigade either. Perhaps it’s simply that ethic minorities and non-English speaking groups aren’t aware of the digital switchover because they don’t watch analogue TV as everything on there is presented in English?

    Just a thought.
