They say everyday is a school day. The things I have learned on this school day are:
- Cypher from The Matrix is Ralph Cifaretto in The Sopranos
- Avoid angry people in the Quiet Carriage
- Other things I can’t repeat in a public place.
They say everyday is a school day. The things I have learned on this school day are:
I’m going on holiday to Cyprus tomorrow and have had a list as long as my arm to complete all week. I won’t lie to you, the Java Assignment took up most of the time, but here is my current progress:
Although, I can’t help but notice that the cricket starts at 11am. What odds I just sit and watch that all day?

The man can bat and what a brilliantly enthused celebration when he reach his ton. He starts the second day unbeaten on 104. It was Kevin Pietersen’s day, there’s no doubt about that. I can understand the South African’s annoyance though, with the very minor technicality of him technically being South African and all.

Excellent, England v South Africa. A proper test for our boys with the added spice of Kevin Pietersen and Graeme Smith’s obvious dislike for each other.
Although they are both as South African as each other, it’s clear that they couldn’t have co-existed in any side, let alone a South African side one that was ruled by racial quotas. Pietersen’s Three Lions tattoos mean nothing to me. His test and ODI numbers included, so what? The man can bat and as far as I’m concerned if he wants to play for England, he’s more than welcome.

It’s excellent to see Freddie Flintoff back in a England kit. I just hope that England don’t rush him, but it’ll be good to see him in the second test if he’s fit. I’ll be watching the cricket in the pub in Cyprus then, with the added advantage that it’ll start at a reasonable hour as it’s a few hours ahead. Win.

I’m probably late with these recommendations for albums, but I’m getting older and it takes me a little while to decide if I like things these days. So anyway…
Any album that opens with a track with the chorus of “I fucked my American cunt” is good with me, but that aside, it’s actually a very strong album. Think clever Original Pirate Material like lyrics and The Killers style synth rock/pop.

Benga - Diary of An Afro Warrior
This will be the seminal album for dubstep and will hopefully do for it what New Forms did for deebee. It’s that simple. Benga & Coki - Night is the new Brown Paper Bag. Very good for going for a run to, especially when “bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-boo-boo-boo-booo” kicks in.
I strongly recommend both albums.
Not as popular this year? Word that I’m going has obviously reached the general populous. Sorry Mr Eavis.
Register and go, if you want… http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/
My recommendation for today takes us back to the breakbeat. Nice sample and big beat that leaves you under no illusions that your only possible recourse is to start dancing. Check it out.

Oh, it has been a few years since I last went to Glastonbury. I’ve been quite a few times since Bud and I first braved it in 1999.

Back then, Bud and I were talking about going to Glastonbury one day in May, after a trip to Homelands and thought it looked alright on the telly so decided we should give it a go. Nobody else was really interested as I recall, so just Bud and I went. We stayed in Bud’s campervan, relative luxury compared to a tent and it was sunny all weekend. We had a great time. Loads of people jumped over the fence and it was full of hippies.

Come the last time I went, it rained and I got wet. I’d got a bit tired of it and haven’t been since. All the regulars carried on going though. A big group of them were there for the mud pit that was last year and they claimed to have had an amazing time anyway.
We also had a bit of a camping trip last August to the Gower. I endured the camping for that, so I though “Fuck it, I’ll go to Glastonbury this year”
I’m like the Glastonbury Hate Camel. I went, filled my hump full of hate, stored it up so when the yearly ticket scrum came along I had ample hate left, so I said “No, I’m not going”.
But this year there is no hate left, I finally want to go again and in fact it’s fair to say - now we’ve all managed to secure tickets - that I am looking forward to it.
Whether I will be so keen when I’m facing a mile long trek across a field in Somerset, I’m not so sure. I’m also concerned because I can drink a lot more than I used to, so I’m going to have to carry around lots of beer.
However, camping with a group of well organised people is quite fun because they have bacon and stuff. I go camping and think “what beer should I get?”. They think things through slightly more.
I can’t claim the camel joke as my own, it belongs to Bill.

A cheeky bit of dubstep is my latest recommendation for you musical ear listening.

Absolutely right? They showed nothing in the last game. Well, it’s the batting that failed on the last day and cost us the game.
TMS Blog story: Ruthless Vaughan axes Harmison and Hoggard
Let Harmison go home to his Mummy, if he’s that bothered. I did expect more of Hoggard, but Sidebottom did the business for us. We need some players that can bat for half a day.
