1. Lykke Li - Youth Novels

    September 4, 2008 by andyg

Lykke Li - Youth NovelsThis was recommended to me in Mixmag ages ago. After a couple of listens I’m now starting to really enjoy it. The Swedish may be rubbish at most Olympic sports but they can certainly do pop. I’m classifying this as pop as even though it has got a slightly electronic element, it is about 50 BPM too slow to be considered even slightly dancey by me.

Although Youth Novels is more down tempo than either of their efforts, I’ll wager both Lily Allen and Kate Nash went home and had a little cry for their souls after hearing this album. The little Swedish pop pixie is even giving away a free album track on Last.fm called Dance Dance Dance so you can try before you buy.

The highlight for me is the track Breaking it Up. I recommend you give this album a hearing.

Buy? Lykke Li - Youth Novels.

  2. Fabric and Fabric Live CDs

    August 4, 2008 by andyg

I’m a FabricFirst member which basically means Fabric send me their latest CD every month and I give them £7 every month. It’s a good deal, their CDs are rarely a let down, even if they have been mostly only used once. They go in to my PC and are ripped to 320kps MP3s, tagged and then go straight on to my iPod where they are listened to over and over.

Until recently however, none of them had any album artwork. For someone who likes to obsessively tag up all his MP3s this is hard to take. But after some frantic Googling, I found a repository of Fabric album artwork so all is again well in the world.

  3. Album Recommendations

    April 14, 2008 by andyg

I’m probably late with these recommendations for albums, but I’m getting older and it takes me a little while to decide if I like things these days. So anyway…

The Teenagers - Reality CheckThe Teenagers - Reality Check

Any album that opens with a track with the chorus of “I fucked my American cunt” is good with me, but that aside, it’s actually a very strong album. Think clever Original Pirate Material like lyrics and The Killers style synth rock/pop.

Benga - Diary of An Afro Warrior

Benga - Diary of An Afro Warrior

This will be the seminal album for dubstep and will hopefully do for it what New Forms did for deebee. It’s that simple. Benga & Coki - Night is the new Brown Paper Bag. Very good for going for a run to, especially when “bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-bo-boo-boo-boo-booo” kicks in.

    I strongly recommend both albums.

  4. Dinamics - Breacknek [Rob Reng remix] (Erase Records)

    April 7, 2008 by andyg

My recommendation for today takes us back to the breakbeat. Nice sample and big beat that leaves you under no illusions that your only possible recourse is to start dancing. Check it out.

  5. The Count And Sinden - Stinging Nettle

    April 6, 2008 by andyg

A cheeky bit of dubstep is my latest recommendation for you musical ear listening.

  6. IKON - Time Is Running Out [Lost Idol Remix] (Jalapeno Records)

    March 3, 2008 by andyg

A far more down-tempo musical recommendation today, one for the post club chill out session. Loving the soothing vocal, especially on Monday after a heavy weekend.

    Check it out

  7. Stupid Fresh ft. Stellar MC - Get the Fuck Up (Vacation Records)

    February 28, 2008 by andyg

The next tune into my digital record box this week is the fine Get the Fuck Up by Stupid Fresh and featuring the fine vocal talents of Stellar MC. Check it out! It’s the top download on DJ Download, so I’m not alone with this recommendation.

  8. Slyde - Kiss Kiss Bang Bang [Twocker Remix] (Finger Lickin’ Records)

    February 26, 2008 by andyg

I’m loving this currently, it’s getting a lot of play in my bedroom and I’m sure the neighbours are bored with it already.

Have a listen and if you like it, don’t forget to buy it!
